A Christmas Carol is the story of Ebenezer Scrooge, an odious, stingy man who hates Christmas. He is visited by three ghosts on Christmas Eve who take him on journeys through the past, present, and future. Will Scrooge see the error of his ways? This Charles Dickens classic can be studied as a play (with yours truly playing the part of the miserly Scrooge) or in the original text.

Amerigen Press: A Christmas Carol

A Christmas Carol written as a play does not exist on the Internet, so I am constantly looking for a condensed version of the story. This one by Amerigen Press is the best I have found to date. Each stave (chapter) is divided into several sections for easy referencing.

"In Defense of Scrooge" by Michael Levin

Michael Levin is a philosophy professor at the City University of New York. His article presents a different perspective on Ebenezer Scrooge's character. Even if you do not agree with Levin's opinions, the article is interesting reading.

How the Grinch Stole Christmas by Dr. Seuss

Is it possible that Dr. Seuss based the Grinch on Dickens' Scrooge? Hmmm. An astute reader can draw parallels between the two characters. Of course, another reason for me providing this link may simply be that I love Dr. Seuss!

The Many Faces of Scrooge

I put together a collection of actors who have portrayed Ebenezer Scrooge over the years. The roll call is quite impressive!

David Perdue's Charles Dickens Page

This is one of the best websites dedicated to the life and works of Charles Dickens, the author of A Christmas Carol.

SparkNotes: A Christmas Carol

Unlike many teachers, I do not have a problem with students who access web sites such as Sparknotes to gain a better understanding of the story, as long as the original text is read!

Stormfax: A Christmas Carol

This is a terrific online version of the story. The text is easy to read, and it comes complete with illustrations!

TNT Presents: A Christmas Carol

Here is a link to the TNT (Turner Network Television) website featuring the newest version of A Christmas Carol. This one stars Patrick Stewart in the lead role. I still prefer George C. Scott as Scrooge, but this site is definitely worth the visit.
