"Blue Monday" by Fats Domino

A Raisin in the Sun is one of my favorite plays to teach because it represents a milestone in African-American literature! We will follow the struggles of the Youngers, an African-American family in 1950s Chicago, as they attempt to capture the American Dream. The story is rich in characterization and drama, yet author Lorraine Hansberry masterfully provides humor at just the right moments. Although the characters' dialogue is often blunt and reflects the racial tension of the period, students will ultimately learn some of life's most valuable lessons.

Harper Audio: A Raisin in the Sun
An online text of A Raisin in the Sun no longer exists, but I found the next best thing - an audio version of the play! The webpage is very plain and graphics are missing, but the entire drama is here, brought to life by the original actors on Broadway.
The History Channel: The Best Search in History
This is heaven for history buffs. You can research the historical events of any decade. Do you want to learn more about the 1950s? First, choose the century in the timeline window. On the next page, choose the decade. The History Channel will then display the important events of that period.
MonkeyNotes: A Raisin in the Sun
MonkeyNotes is rapidly becoming a favorite of students. It couldn't have anything to do with the name, could it? In any case, this is an excellent resource for studying all aspects of Lorraine Hansberry's play.
A Raisin in the Sun on Broadway
The play concluded its Broadway run in July 2004, but the website is still up and running. Compare the latest version to the original I teach in class.
Test your knowledge of the play's plot. It's a much easier quiz than one of mine!
For many years, Internet versions of the play did not exist. I came across this script recently; however, there is one significant drawback. The characters' names are not identified! It seems silly to provide all of the dialogue without names, but at least we now have something online to work with.
