Film Literature is a special unit to teach because it is an opportunity for me to share an intriguing aspect of Language Arts that I was fortunate to learn in high school and college. The unit enables students to visualize many of the literary elements found in written literature while studying classic films from the silent era up to the 1940s. Over the course of several weeks, different genres are sampled and various filming techniques are explored. Some films under consideration for this year include Casablanca, Citizen Kane, Duck Soup, and The Grapes of Wrath.

"Buster Crabbe: An All American Hero in Outer Space"

There are two reasons for placing this PDF file on my website. Larry "Buster" Crabbe starred in several popular movie serials in the 1930s and 1940s that were direct sources of inspiration for Star Wars. Furthermore, we may study one of those movie serials in class, so students will gain important biographical information on Crabbe from this except taken from Karl Whitezel's book Buster Crabbe: A Self Portrait."

Charlie Chaplin: A World Wide Web Celebration

David Gerstein created this website as a project for one of college classes. The finished product is one of the best explorations of Chaplin's life and related works I have found online.
